University of Macau,
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary (1981-2011) the University of Macau, in collaboration with the Centro Internacional de Matemática (CIM), hosts and organizes a Workshop on the ICMI-ICIAM Study on the "Educational Interfaces between Mathematics and Industry" on November 3-4, 2011. The need for an analysis and a reflection on strategies for the education and training of new generations to face the challenges of the increasing connections between innovation, science and mathematics was recognized in a recent OECD Global Science Forum on Mathematics in Industry. The international EIMI Study is a joint study between the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) of the International Mathematical Union and the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM), which Discussion Document was launched in 2009 and is available at http://eimi.glocos.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/EIMI_DD_FFF-09Rev.pdf. The Study consists of an international Conference, already held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 11-15 October 2010 (the Proceedings of which are freely available in http://www.cim.pt/files/proceedings_eimi_2010.pdf ) and of a Study Volume, which is a post-conference book to be published in 2012 by Springer Verlag. The purpose of this Workshop is to contribute to this on going ICMI/ICIAM study, in particular, to enhance its recommendations and conclusions.
